Habitar: Una revisión crítica sobre nuestra presencia en la Tierra
Rubén Martín de Lucas explora la relación que como humanidad mantenemos con el territorio y el resto de especies que lo habitan. A través de acciones en el paisaje, series fotográficas, pintura e instalaciones de vídeo, Rubén traduce temas como la paulatina reducción de espacio para la vida salvaje, la superpoblación, el carácter artificial de las fronteras o el progresivo distanciamiento mental entre la humanidad y la naturaleza.
Esta conferencia será un viaje por sus procesos, que nos llevará desde las ideas primigenias en una libreta hasta instalaciones de vídeo multicanal, artefactos multimedia o instalaciones sonoras. Todo ello para cuestionar la relación con un planeta que nos trasciende en edad y sobre el que tenemos un extraño e intenso sentimiento de propiedad.
Habitar: A Critical Reassessment of Our Presence on Earth
Rubén Martín de Lucas explores the relationship that we, as humanity, maintain with the territory and the other species that inhabit it. Through actions in the landscape, photographic series, painting, and video installations, Rubén addresses issues such as the gradual reduction of space available for wildlife, overpopulation, the artificial nature of borders, and the growing mental distance between humanity and nature.
This lecture will take us on a journey through his creative processes, from the initial ideas recorded in a notebook to multichannel video installations, multimedia artifacts, and sound installations. All of this serves to question our relationship with a planet that vastly predates us and over which we nevertheless hold a strange and intense sense of ownership.

BIO
Rubén Martín de Lucas (Madrid. 1977) es Ingeniero de Caminos, Canales y Puertos por la UPM de Madrid. Declinó ejercer la ingeniería para dedicarse por completo al arte. Fue también uno de los fundadores de Boa Mistura con quién trabajó desde 2001 a 2015 realizando proyectos en países como Brasil, México, Argelia o Sudáfrica
En enero de 2015 comienza su andadura en solitario con un claro foco en lo que el artista llama “paisaje y comportamiento asociado”. Acciones en el paisaje, series fotográficas, pintura e instalaciones de vídeo conforman un cuerpo de trabajo cuyo discurso comprometido y crítico nos invita a replantear urgentemente nuestra relación con la Tierra.
Su trabajo ha sido expuesto en monográficas en centros de arte como el Kunstverein de Augsburg, el CAB de Burgos o el Lianzhou Museum of Photography de China. En festivales de fotografía como Encontros de Imagem en Braga o Circulation(s) en Paris. Trabaja con galerías de España, Francia, Alemania y Estados Unidos y ha sido ampliamente exhibido en colectivas en otros países como Uruguay, Cuba, Italia, Nigeria o Finlandia.
BIO
Rubén Martín de Lucas (Madrid, 1977) holds a degree in Civil Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM). He chose not to pursue a career in engineering in order to devote himself entirely to art. He was also one of the founding members of Boa Mistura, with whom he worked from 2001 to 2015 on projects in countries including Brazil, Mexico, Algeria, and South Africa.
In January 2015, he began his independent artistic career, with a clear focus on what he calls “landscape and associated behavior.” Actions in the landscape, photographic series, painting, and video installations form a body of work whose engaged and critical discourse invites us to urgently reconsider our relationship with the Earth.
His work has been presented in solo exhibitions at art centers such as Kunstverein Augsburg, CAB de Burgos, and the Lianzhou Museum of Photography in China, as well as at photography festivals including Encontros de Imagem in Braga and Circulation(s) in Paris. He works with galleries in Spain, France, Germany, and the United States, and his work has been widely exhibited in group shows in countries including Uruguay, Cuba, Italy, Nigeria, and Finland.
